Privacy Policy

Last updated 14 October 2026

If you're a neighbour: you don't give us your name, email, phone number or address. Turning on notifications stores a technical address for your browser so we can send updates to it, and nothing else about you. You can turn notifications off any time, and they stop when the build is finished.

If you're a builder: we keep your business and contact details to run your account, and your payment details are held by Stripe, not us. We don't sell anyone's information and we don't use advertising trackers.

1. Who we are

BuildKind is operated by Travis Jones (ABN 29 742 643 482), trading as BuildKind. We follow the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988. Questions or requests can go to info@getbuildkind.com.au.

2. Neighbours

What we collect

Like almost every website, our hosting providers keep short-term server logs of requests, which include IP addresses, for security and troubleshooting. We don't use them to identify or track anyone.

The builder can see how many people are subscribed to their project and how many views it has had. They can't see who you are, and they can't contact you through BuildKind.

How long we keep it

Your subscription is removed when you turn notifications off, when your device stops accepting them, or when the builder closes the job. We delete subscriptions for a closed job within 30 days. Page view records hold no personal information.

3. Builders

What we collect

Why we use it

We don't send you marketing unless you've asked for it, and we don't sell or rent your information.

How long we keep it

We keep your details while your account is open, including between jobs. If you ask us to delete your account, we remove your account, jobs, updates and neighbour subscriptions. We keep invoices and payment records for as long as Australian tax law requires, currently five years.

4. Who we share information with

We use a small number of service providers to run BuildKind. They only process information to provide their service to us.

ProviderWhat forWhere
SupabaseDatabase and builder loginsSydney, Australia
NetlifyHosting the website and appUnited States and global network
StripePayments and invoicesAustralia and United States
ResendSending account emails to buildersUnited States
Apple, Google, Mozilla, MicrosoftDelivering notifications to neighbours' devices, through the push service built into each browserVarious, including the United States
Google FontsLoading the typeface on our pages, which gives Google your IP addressUnited States

Some of these providers store or process information outside Australia, mainly in the United States. We choose providers with strong security practices. We may also disclose information where the law requires it.

5. Cookies and storage

We don't use advertising or tracking cookies, or third-party analytics. When builders log in, your browser stores a session so you stay signed in. On a neighbour's device, the browser keeps the notification subscription and a small background script that receives updates. Removing BuildKind from your home screen or clearing your browser's site data removes these.

6. Security

Information is encrypted in transit. Access to the database is restricted so each builder can only reach their own data, and we limit our own access to what's needed to run and support BuildKind. If a data breach is likely to cause serious harm, we'll tell the people affected and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner, as the law requires.

7. Accessing or correcting your information

Builders can update their business details in Settings. For anything else, including a copy of the information we hold about you or a deletion request, email info@getbuildkind.com.au and we'll respond within 30 days.

Because we don't know who neighbours are, the simplest way for a neighbour to remove their information is to turn off notifications on their device.

8. Complaints

If you're concerned about how we've handled your information, please email us first and we'll work to fix it. If you're not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.

9. Changes

We'll update this policy if what we collect or how we use it changes. The date at the top shows the latest version, and we'll email builders about any significant change.
